Walking the
Runway

A peak behind the stage of bikini contests

By Danielle Ellis

With spring break just ending and summer around the corner, it’s officially bikini season. Many of the local bars in the college region are hosting their annual bikini contests.

Living the life of a contest winner may seem like glam and fun, but a lot of hard work goes into getting that ideal look.

Whipping a body back in shape, picking out the perfect swimsuit, and tanning are a few preparations before stepping in front of the crowd.

“I love stepping on stage and hearing the crowd. When they call my name, I know all my hard work has paid off,” said Nicky Fleites, AJ’s Sports Pub 1st place contestant.

The battle of bikini bods started off with Baja’s Beach Club who crowned Brittany Noel as their 1st place winner on March 24, 2009. Nicky Fleites conquered AJ’s sports pub a week later, followed by Jenna Thornhill cat walking her way into the judge’s hearts at the 2009 Tallahassee Hooters Swimsuit Contest on April 15.

“Some girls take it too serious when they don’t make it to the final rounds, but they shouldn’t let their emotions be determined by the opinion of three random people (the judges), because they are all beautiful and should know it,” said Brittany Noel, Hooters Girl International contestant.

With admission prices varying from $10-$250, getting the best seat can become costly.

“Our VIP seats consist of all you can eat, as well as all you can drink with a front row seat,” stated Brandon Hood, General Manager of Tallahassee Hooters.

So pull out the calendar and start marking the dates.

Upcoming Contests
Saturday April 25, Baja’s will be hosting a pool side contest at Osceola Ridge Apartments off Ocala Street.

Thursday May 14, Big 4 Off Shore will be launching off Pockets Pool & Pub’s first contest of the season.
